Story:

Left of Joseph Statue

Jesus called Peter by telling him, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Peter then dropped everything and followed Him. Peter witnessed miracles, heard teachings that stirred his soul, and even attempted to walk on water, only to be reminded of his wavering faith. He confessed Jesus as the Messiah, for which he was called "the rock" on which the church would be built. Yet, in his fear, he denied Jesus three times during his Lord's arrest. Tradition says that, during a time of persecution, Peter faced his martyrdom, choosing to be crucified upside down, feeling unworthy to die in the same manner as his Savior. The man who had once denied Jesus had become a cornerstone of the church, a testament to the transformative power of faith and forgiveness. Peter was the first Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.
