Story:
Left of Joseph Statue
Peter Julian, a five-year-old boy with insightful eyes, disappeared one afternoon. His sister, responsible for his care, frantically searched their small French Alps village. She found him in the silent church. He was not playing as a child would, but standing on a small ladder, his ear against the tabernacle door. "I'm listening to Jesus," he whispered to his relieved, yet puzzled, sister.
This profound devotion to the Blessed Sacrament marked the start of a long journey for Peter Julian Eymard. His path to the priesthood presented challenges, such as his father's initial opposition and recurring health problems. However, fueled by his love for the Eucharist, he persevered and was ordained at 24.
As a priest, Peter dedicated himself to proclaiming Jesus' love in the Eucharist. He felt a powerful call to focus more intently on this mystery and, in 1856, founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. This community dedicated itself to the perpetual adoration of Christ in the Eucharist, seeking to deepen faith and transform lives through this prayer. Despite poverty and setbacks in the early years, Peter Julian's trust in Jesus never wavered.
He taught that Eucharistic adoration was not merely contemplation, but the heart that propelled service and love for others. Saint Peter Julian Eymard, the Apostle of the Eucharist, continues to inspire today, reminding people of Jesus' constant presence in the Blessed Sacrament and the transformative power of a life centered on Christ's love.
