About:

Although Rita longed to join the Augustinian nuns in Cascia, she followed her parents wishes and married a man known for his quick temper. For eighteen years, Rita endured her marriage with grace, marked by patience and kindness. Rita's unwavering love and prayers eventually softened her husband’s heart, and he renounced his former ways. They had two sons, whom Rita diligently raised in the Christian faith. Later, after her husband was murdered, Rita, embodying forgiveness, publicly pardoned his killers. Yet, her brother-in-law sought to inflame her sons' desire for revenge. Fearing for their souls, Rita prayed for God to intervene, and both her sons died from illness before they could commit such a sin. Now a widow and childless, Rita renewed her desire to enter the convent. Rita spent the next forty years of her life in the monastery, dedicated to prayer and charity. She longed to share in Christ's suffering, and her desire was answered in a miraculous way. While meditating before a crucifix, a thorn from Christ's crown of thorns pierced her forehead, leaving a wound that remained for the next fifteen years. This partial stigmata became a physical manifestation of her union with Christ. As Rita lay ill, near the end of her life, a relative visited and asked if there was anything she desired. Rita, with a twinkle in her eye, asked for a rose from her family's garden, an impossible request in the dead of winter. But miraculously, a single, vibrant rose bloomed amidst the snow, a symbol of hope and God's power over impossible circumstances. This beautiful event led her to be known as the Patroness of Impossible Causes. At the age of seventy-six, Rita passed away. Her body, found to be incorruptible, remains preserved in the Basilica of Santa Rita da Cascia, a testament to her enduring holiness and the numerous miracles attributed to her intercession.
