Story:
Saint Alphonsus was a child prodigy who excelled in law, obtaining his doctorate at the young age of sixteen. He pursued a successful legal career for eight years, reportedly never losing a case. However, a significant legal defeat led him to question his worldly pursuits and a call to religious life. He was ordained a priest in 1726, at the age of thirty.
Driven by a deep desire to serve the "poor and most abandoned," founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, also known as the Redemptorists, which focused on preaching and ministering to those on the fringes of society. Alphonsus was a compelling preacher, using simple and understandable language that resonated with ordinary people. His focus was on the "abundance of God's love," emphasizing hope in Christ and devotion to Mary, the Mother of the Redeemer.
He dedicated himself to writing, composing over 100 books and numerous pamphlets on spirituality and theology, earning him the title "Doctor of the Church." He passed away on August 1, 1787, at the age of 90.
