Prayer:
St. John Bosco, your dedication to empowering the needy and enlightening the ignorant inspires us still. Help me to work for a better world, where the young are given the chance to flourish, where the poor’s dream for justice can come true, and where God’s compassion is shown to be real. Intercede for me as I bring my needs to you and to Our heavenly Mother, the Help of Christians.

Story:
As a young boy, Don (born John Melchior Bosco) had big dreams, especially one that would shape his entire life. He had a dream that he was in a field with a group of boys, some laughing, some playing, but many using foul language. Shocked, he tried to intervene with his fists, but a man appeared, saying, "You will have to win these friends of yours not with blows, but with gentleness and kindness." This dream ignited in John a burning desire to help young people. He'd even use magic tricks and acrobatics to gather his peers, interspersing the entertainment with prayer and lessons.
Ordained as "Don Bosco" in 1841, he dedicated himself to the marginalized youth in Turin. He opened an "oratory," not just a place of prayer but a home, a school, and a place to learn skills. His educational approach was revolutionary. He believed in kindness, reason, and religion over punishment, creating a family atmosphere. He established the Salesian Order to continue this work with boys and later, with St. Mary Mazzarello, a similar group for girls.
