Story:

In his younger years, Peregrine Laziosi was a member of a group opposed to the Pope and the Church. One day, during a public address by Saint Philip Benizi, a papal representative, Peregrine, fueled by youthful rebellious fervor, physically attacked him. However, St. Philip's humility and forgiveness had a profound impact, changing the course of Peregrine's life forever. Overcome by remorse, Peregrine repented and converted, embracing Catholicism and eventually joining the Servite Order. He dedicated himself to prayer, penance, and serving the poor and sick. His dedication and preaching led many others back to the Church. Later in life, Peregrine was diagnosed with a cancerous growth on his foot. The pain was immense, and amputation was deemed the only way to save his life. The night before the scheduled surgery, Peregrine, in great pain, dragged himself to a chapel and spent hours in prayer before a crucifix. He fell asleep and dreamt of Jesus descending from the cross and touching his diseased leg. Upon waking, Peregrine found his foot completely healed, with no trace of the cancer. This miracle, along with his exemplary life of service and piety, identified him as a man of faith and healing. St. Peregrine's story reminds us that even in the face of immense suffering, faith can lead to miraculous outcomes.
